Browns Waive Five Players

This happens every single year after the first mini-camp has concluded, as the team decides that some players don't fit their needs. This year, the Browns have decided to trim the roster by five players.

According to NFL sources, the Browns have requested waivers for five players who participated in the recent mini-camp.

Players being trimmed from the roster are QB Dustin Almond (Southern Mississippi), T Lance Butler (Florida), DBs Charles Hall (SE Louisiana) and Jeremy Modkins (Texas Christian) and linebacker Ricardo Hurley.

Almond was one of two undrafted free agent quarterbacks brought in by the Browns to compete with Derek Anderson and Lang Campbell for the third quarterback spot. His release leaves UAB's Darrell Hackney competing with Anderson and Campbell for a spot behind starter Charlie Frye and backup Ken Dorsey.

The players who are cut can be claimed by other NFL franchises by Monday at 4PM. After that time, they are free to sign with any club.
