Catching On

As everyone knows Kris Durham left Calhoun High School early to attend the University of Georgia. Leaving early paid off as he was named the Biggest Offensive Surprise of the Spring at the conclusion of spring drills. In the G-Day game he caught a pass for eight yards. Will he play this year or will he be redshirted? Who knows? One thing I do know is what he told me this week.

Dave McMahon -- How has summer been going so far?

Kris Durham -- So far it's been going well. I am learning a lot of stuff and I am getting bigger and stronger.

DM -- How much do you weigh now?

KD -- I weigh around 203 pounds. I was up to 206 for awhile. Last year I weighed 185.

DM -- This summer is a lot different from your high school summers?

KD -- There is so much to learn here. I am learning moves and techniques. In high school, I could get by, by running past them. Everyone is fast now, so I have to have better technique now.

DM -- So are you glad you came early now?

KD -- I am so glad. I am so much stronger and better than I was before.

DM -- How would you rate your G-Day performance?

KD -- I did pretty well. I made a lot of mistakes though. I ran a wrong route by cutting the wrong way and Joe Cox threw an interception and Ramarcus Brown returned it for a touchdown.

DM -- For the most part, the wide receiver position is wide open this year, do you use that for a motivation?

KD -- I just go out there and do the best I can. I go out there as I am a starter and try my hardest. I don't know if they are going to redshirt me or not so I have to be ready whenever they call on me.

DM -- Do you and the rest of the this year's early enrollees have a bond?

KD -- We do, but it's funny. We bonded with the class before ours, but now that our class is here we have bonded with them, too. I guess we have a giant bond. It is a big family.

DM -- Describe Coach John Eason...

KD -- He is a great motivator. He explains things well and that was one big reason why I wanted to come here.

DM -- In a few weeks you are about to play in front of 92,000 fans... what is the most fans you have played in front of?

KD -- Whatever the G-Day crowd was or maybe at the Georgia Dome for the high school playoffs.

DM -- Thank you and good luck in the future.
