The Need for Speed

True freshman Akeem Hebron is one of the fastest linebackers on the Georgia team. He used that speed to register 131 tackles and 13 sacks as a senior in high school. The Maryland native was ranked the 5th best linebacker last season. He is also 1 of 4 freshman linebackers that is looking for early playing time. Will he get it or will he have to redshirt? We will soon find out.

Dave McMahon -- How have summer workouts been going?

Akeem Hebron -- Real well. My high school did a lot of the same drills as they do here, so I didn't have to adjust too much. They are a little more intense here.

DM -- Are you any faster or bigger from last year?

AH -- Same speed. Right now I weigh 215 pounds, last year I weighed 195.

DM -- Have the coaches talked to you about playing this year or are they talking about redshirting you?

AH -- It depends how I do in the practices. I feel like I can contribute. Right now there are 4 freshman linebackers to are trying to fit into the rotation. I just have to learn the plays and do my best. I want to get into the linebacker rotation and play some special teams, too.

DM -- What are your strengths as a linebacker?

AH -- I have a real nose for the ball. I am also a lot faster than most linebackers.

DM -- What was your 40 time?

AH -- Last year I was once clocked at 4.4

DM -- What do you like about Linebackers coach John Jancek?

AH -- We are real close. We talk to each other a lot. He helps me out a lot. He is a good coach.

DM -- What about Coach Mark Richt?

AH -- He is a real good person. He is very caring. He cares about how you do in the classroom as much as he does on the football field.

DM -- Will you have any family down for the first game vs Western Kentucky?
AH -- Definitely. My mom will be there. My sister, some cousins. I will have a lot of people there for my first game.

DM -- Thank you for your time and I bet you will have around 92,746 people there that will treat you like family.
