2006 Media Days: Legge's Look at Vanderbilt

BIRMINGHAM – Here's a look at the day Vanderbilt Head Coach Bobby Johnson and the Commodores had at the SEC's annual Media Day event. Vanderbilt finished fourth in the SEC East last season and did not go to a bowl.

Most memorable Georgia win: 1983 – All-American Terry Hoage knocks away a Vanderbilt pass near the end of the game to save the win for the Dawgs.

Most painful Georgia loss: 1994 – Ray Goff may have lost his job when Vandy ran up the score on the Dawgs in Athens – on Homecoming, no less.

That's how many points Vanderbilt has lost by in their last four trips to Athens. In only one of those games, Georgia's 29-19 win in 2000, were the Commodores within two touchdowns by the time the game ended.

SEC Media Day's quote to note:

"We used to play The Citadel and guys like that – and they are not Michigan." – Vanderbilt Head Coach Bobby Johnson's thoughts on the start of his season. Vandy opens up playing at Michigan, at Alabama and hosting Arkansas.

"I am still searching." – Johnson on trying to find an open date in Vandy's schedule. Vandy is looking into the possibility of playing a game after Thanksgiving in future seasons.

"We have not proved that we can beat Middle Tennessee, but we dropped them and are going on the road to play Michigan." – Johnson on the thinking at Vanderbilt of playing at Michigan.

"It's kind of scary to me." - Johnson talking about the use of websites like MySpace.com, and the information players put online.

"It's not rocket surgery - it's football." - Johnson said smliing talking about his new new quarterback's ability to pick up the offense.

"I did call the SEC office after the Florida game last season, but I am not telling you what I called them." - Johnson said with a smile on his face. He was talking about Vandy's overtime loss to the Gators last season where Vandy came up on the short end of a few difficult calls.
