2006 Media Days: Legge's Look at Tennessee

BIRMINGHAM – Here's a look at the day Tennessee Head Coach Phillip Fulmer and the Vols had at the SEC's annual Media Day event. Tennessee finished fifth in the SEC East and did not go to a bowl last season.

Last season: 5-6
Last game vs. Georgia: 27-14 loss
Series Record: Tennessee leads 18-15-2

Most memorable Georgia win: 2001 – Mark Richt, David Greene and Georgia arrive on the SEC by shocking Tennessee in Knoxville for the first time in 20 seasons. It was Tennessee's only loss of the regular season.

Most painful Georgia loss: 2004 – Tennessee knocks out Georgia, a national championship contender, in Athens. The Vols were a two-touchdown underdog to Georgia that day.

Starters returning: 11

Best player: Arron Sears
Biggest Weakness: Linebackers
2006's big questions: Can Tennessee recover from their worst season since the 1980s, or are there real problems in Knoxville? Who will quarterback Tennessee this season?

Inside the numbers vs. Georgia (as seen in the upcoming Dawg Post 2006 Season Preview):

That's how many yards rushing Tennessee averaged last season per game – their worst in the last six years. The Vols averaged 186 yards a game on the ground in 2004 when they won the SEC East. Tennessee also had a -7 turnover margin for the season. In the previous five years the Vols always had a positive turnover margin for the year.

SEC Media Day's quote to note:

"A lot of people were upset with me about the way we finished last year." – Tennessee Head Coach Phillip Fulmer Tennessee's losing season in 2005.

"We have answered the bell about not having the off-season problems we did last year." – Fulmer again, this time talking about the arrests the Vols had before the 2005 season.

"Last year was a complete meltdown from the standpoint of guys thinking that playing at Tennessee is a right and not a privilege." - Fulmer on the attitude of the Vols going into last season.

Legge's projected SEC finish: 3rd SEC East
