"We're honing in on a snapper and a holder," he said. "We're not 100 percent sure, but we're getting closer. We'll let it ride through our practice game next week."
Richt said the Bulldogs also are getting closer to being settled on the starter and initial reserve at quarterback. Georgia will have a scrimmage in Sanford Stadium on Friday, with Joe Tereshinski, Blake Barnes, Joe Cox and Matthew Stafford all receiving the same amount of work.
"It's big," Richt said of the scrimmage. "We're not going to base it off just one day and Coach (Mike) Bobo and I have our suspicions as to which way it will go, but it's not nailed down. It's a big day because it's very close.
"By Sunday, we'll know and we'll get it going on Monday. We'll be able to say who's starting and who's likely to get the next opportunity to play."
Richt emphasized that he also wants reserves at all positions to keep trying to work their way up the depth chart.
"We have some starting jobs up for grabs, but there's also playing time up for grabs," Richt said. "We'll use more than one guy at a lot of positions, so even though someone's not starting he may be looking at a 50-50 or 60-40 playing time situation. We want those guys looking to play 30 to 50 percent of the game and show us that they deserve more."
