Goodman ready to sneak up on people

ATHENS – Demiko Goodman thinks he's going to sneak up on some people this year, which is easy to do you if you're as fast as Goodman.

"My first two years I've been learning the system and everything," the sophomore wide receiver said. "This is my year to get it going so I think I'm going to surprise a lot of folks."

Demiko Goodman didn't have a catch last year but he has contributed to the Bulldog athletic program. In 2005, he finished 16th in the NCAA in the 400 meters. In high school, Goodman was nationally ranked in the 200 and 400 meters.

He finally has made his move on the football field this fall, Coach Mark Richt said. Goodman has caught the ball more consistently and practiced with more energy this preseason, Richt said.

"I think he can be a good deep threat, but he's done a good job with all his route running," Richt said.

Goodman is working predominantly at split end behind Mohamed Massaquoi, he said. He doesn't know yet where he fits in the pecking order, he said, but he was stretching with the second-teamers at one point this week.

"I know we're rotating so whenever (wide receivers coach John) Eason puts me in I'll just do my job," he said.
