2006 Football Preview
Class AAAA - Region 3

Baldwin and Jones County are out, while Brunswick, Glynn Academy, Richmond Academy and Ware County are in the new Region 3. The A subregion is comprised of Brunswick, Effingham County, Glynn Academy, Ware County and Wayne County. The B subregion is made up of Evans, Greenbrier, Lakeside-Evans, Richmond Academy and Statesboro.
Of the teams in the A subregion, only Effingham County had a record below .500 last season when the Rebels finished 5-6. Meanwhile, only Statesboro in the B subregion finished with a winning record in 2005.
Ware County, which moves to Region 3 after competing in the rugged Region 1, will be the subregion favorite. The Gators went 3-1 against Class AAAAA schools and was the only team to defeat Class AAAAA state champion Lowndes.
After Ware, it will be a toss-up between the rest of the teams. Glynn Academy and Brunswick each made the playoffs as Class AAAAA schools last year, while Wayne County and Effingham County also made the postseason.
In the B subregion, don't expect defending state champion Statesboro, which has been in the title game five of the past six years and captured its second state title in that span, to miss a beat. The Blue Devils return a pair of defensive stalwarts in senior back John Knox (6-2, 190) and end Justin Houston (6-3, 240).
Greenbrier played well at times last season, beating both of its Columbia County rivals in Evans and Lakeside-Evans soundly. The Wolfpack narrowly missed the postseason. They should improve.
Evans and Lakeside-Evans shouldn't factor into the playoff chase. Richmond Academy, which struggled in Class AAA, won't find the competition any easier.
