Tailgating 101

ATHENS - Josh Kendall reviews the new tailgating rules in Athens.

The New Rules

Tailgating regulations have been tightened in Athens. On the eve of the season-opener, here are the highlights of the new rules and regulations.

-- Set up after 7 a.m.

Fans will be allowed to arrive on campus and park in legal parking spaces whenever they want but cannot set up tailgate equipment or begin making noise until 7 a.m.

-- Park only in legal spaces and use only one spot Cars parked on sidewalks and landscaped areas will be towed. Fifteen hundred new spaces have been added at the school's intramural fields on the corner of College State and East Campus roads. The university is selling season parking passes for the final six home games starting Sept. 9 at www.gamedaygameplan.com. Parking in decks on north and south campus is $20 per game. The parking decks on East Campus will remain free of charge.

-- Bring trash bags

More trash cans will be available on campus or tailgaters can leave their bagged trash at their tailgating area and it will be picked up the school's clean-up crew.

-- Be aware of fan-friendly areas

Two alcohol-free tailgating zones will be set up and include activities for children. The first will be on the North Campus quadrangle between Old College and Broad Street. The men's golf team and several UGA cheerleaders will be there. The second is on South Campus at D.W. Brooks Mall. Members of the women's basketball team and cheerleading squad will be in that area.
