Earlier Than Expected

Bryan Evans had a stellar career at Jacksonville's Edward H. White High School and for his effort was ranked the 9th best cornerback in the nation. He chose Georgia over Florida, FSU, LSU and Tennessee among others. After a redshirt season last year, Evans got to show what he can do last Saturday In a reserve role Evans had a tackle and pass breakup. Today I had a chance to talk to him.

Dave McMahon -- You sprained your left MCL a few weeks back and were expected to miss a game or two... when did you know you were going to play?

Bryan Evans -- Coach gave me a few reps at practice last Monday and he told me I was doing well. I just want to be out there in defense or special teams. I want to contribute and help out the Georgia Bulldogs.

DM -- Are you 100% now?

BE -- Not yet, but I am close.

DM -- You redshirted last year, how great is it to be back playing?

BE -- It was great. I used to never sit on the bench and last year I had to, but making that tackle on Saturday was one of the best feelings I have had in a long time.

DM -- What did you learn by redshirting?

BE -- My overall technique. Paul Oliver and DeMario Minter taught me sometime you don't have to go for the big hit.

DM -- What do you still need to work on?

BE -- I like my speed and how physical I am, but I need to improve on some of my fundamentals in tackling.

DM -- How good is Paul Oliver?

BE -- Paul is not a vocal guy, he speaks his actions on the field. He breaks for the ball great. He's good at all the fundamentals.

DM -- Not only Coach Martinez the defensive coordinator he is also the defensive backs coach... is he any tougher on your group?

BE -- I wouldn't say tougher. He helps us a lot due to how young we are as a group. It is important that we do things right because if a lineman messes up the opponent might gain 2-3 more yards, if we mess up it can be a touchdown.

DM -- You played in a lot of plays on Saturday... let's hope it continues... if it does how many friends or family will be at the Georgia / Florida game?

BE -- I will probably have a few. Last year we had about 20 members there, but only a couple got in. This year I hope more get a chance.

DM -- What do you know about South Carolina's offense?

BE -- Sidney Rice. He is very talented. Kenny McKinley impressed me vs Mississippi State last week as did Cory Boyd.

DM -- Thank you for your time and answers.
