Safety First

Kelin Johnson was not heavily rated by recruiting services. That did not stop Georgia from offering him a scholarship. He has not disappointed Bulldog fans at all. He is now a starter and has been excelling on the field. After 2 games he is 2nd on the team with 11 tackles and has the team's lone interception. Kelin talks about his role on his team and a lot more in this interview.

Dave McMahon -- 2-0 is a great way to start the season, but you got to keep going...

Kelin Johnson -- Definitely. We still have to improve on a lot of little things. The next game is UAB and they are big and physical. There O-Line is huge.

DM -- Your play has improved, too... what is different?

KJ -- I am doing what the coaches are telling me to. Wherever Coach Martinez tells me to be, I will be.

DM -- Most of the defensive backs are real young... do you, Tra Battle and Paul Oliver consider yourself leaders, too?

KJ -- Of course... we have to lead by example. We all do. Greg Blue and Thomas Davis were great leaders for me and I assume players like Sean Jones and Jermaine Phillips were leaders for them.

DM -- You have Thomas Flowers back this week... that is huge...

KJ -- I am so happy he is back. He brings so much energy.

DM -- What was the secret of slowing down Sidney Rice?

KJ -- It starts with the front 7. If they pressure the quarterback, it makes our job easier. Paul and Tra did I good job, too.

DM -- You have made some hard hits this year... is this something you have always done?

KJ -- I try. I like making big plays.

DM -- Did you watch Greg Blue's first game last Monday?

KJ -- I sure did. I talked to him about it.

DM -- Thank you for your time and answers.
