Colorado Week: Thursday News and Notes

ATHENS - Josh Kendall's news and notes from Georiga's fall pracitces.

BOARD MEETING: The executive committee of Georgia's Athletic Association board of directors will meet today in a session that is expected to be uneventful. The only major item on the agenda is the preliminary discussion of an expansion to the first floor of the athletic building, which will include updating the weight room and training room.

Athletic director Damon Evans will ask the board for approval to get architectural drawings of several versions of the expansion, which could range from the hundreds of thousands of dollars to more than $2 million. The expansion won't get final approval until the board's spring meeting at the earliest, and funds still must be raised for the project, Evans said.

ON DECK: Coach Mark Richt said his team would like to have one non-conference opponent from a BCS conference each year, but he admitted he would be choosy about the selection.

"If Southern Cal came up, I'd probably be like, ‘Well, I'm not sure I want to do that,'" he said, "and Southern Cal might be saying, ‘I'm not sure we want to do that.'"

In most cases, it's useless for Richt to do too much research about a possible opponent, he said.

"Most of them are scheduled far enough down the road that you really can't tell," he said. "You can only go by history."

INJURY UPDATE: Wide receiver Mikey Henderson (hamstring) and Mohammed Massaquoi (hamstring) will play this weekend, Richt said. Offensive lineman Michael Turner (ankle) will not, and wide receiver Mario Raley (elbow) was upgraded to questionable after practicing Thursday.

Brandon Coutu is expected to handle kickoffs despite a slightly strained quadriceps muscle.
