Ole Miss Week: Thursday Practice Report

ATHENS The tenth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs practiced in and out of rain during their workout at Sanford Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

The hardest rain fell nearly 45 minutes into practice, just as the stadium¹s loud speakers began playing artificial crowd noise.

Head coach Mark Richt was asked Thursday if he has made the decision whether redshirt freshman Joe Cox or true freshman Matthew Stafford will start at quarterback on Saturday night at Ole Miss.

³No, I really haven¹t,² said Richt. ³We¹ll talk about it on Friday and tell them on Saturday. I¹ve just learned in life not to make big decisions too quickly. But they¹ve been great. They¹ve all been through some highs and some lows, and they understand they¹re in the learning mode. They¹re learning to be major college quarterbacks.

³They know they need to understand the game plan, and when their time comes, be ready. They both have done a good job and both practiced well all week. I¹m gaining more confidence in both of them as far as the plays we install. They both know they¹ll play this week, so I think that has taken some of the pressure off of them,² Richt said.

Georgia has won six straight over Ole Miss, but the two teams have not played since 2002 when the Bulldogs won 31-17 in Athens. In the last meeting between the teams in Oxford, the Bulldogs won 35-15 in 2001. Georgia is 20-2 under Richt when playing in an opponent's home stadium.
