Close... Only Counts In...

There is a saying that goes close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. Well it certainly doesn't count in college football games. A loss is always a loss in the record book. The Georgia Bulldogs are not the only team suffering from close games as you will see.

As you all know Georgia lost to Florida again last week by 7 points. It was the 5th straight game that Georgia and Florida has played a game decided by 7 or less points.

It was also the 34th time in series history that a Georgia/Florida game has been decided by 7 or less points.

The Georgia/Auburn game has been decided by 7 or less points in 47 meetings.

The Georgia/Georgia Tech game has been decided by 7 or less points in 40 meetings.

This season marked just the 17th time that Georgia and Vanderbilt played in a contest decided by 7 or less points.

Georgia has actually played 4 SEC games this year decided by 7 or less points.

Last season Georgia also played in 4 SEC games decided by 7 or less points.

There has been 31 SEC head-to-head games this season and 17 have been decided by 7 points or less.

Even closer is that of the 31 games, 9 of them have been decided by 3 or less.

To the good people of CBS... of the 9 SEC head-to-head games they have shown this season... 5 of those have been decided by 4 or less points.

Those 9 games represent 29% of the SEC head-to-head games. Last year only 20.4% of the SEC head-to-head games decided by 3 or less points. Since 2000, the highest percentage has been 30.6% which happened in 2001.

The 29.0% is also the highest percentage of any major conference. The ACC is 2nd with 24.1%. The Big Ten and the Big 12 are at 17.2%.
