Some Things You Might Not Know

This has been a crazy season for Georgia football fans, they lost to Vanderbilt and Kentucky, but defeated Auburn and Georgia Tech. Yes that is crazy, but it has happened before. The same thing happened back in 1973 and then won the Peach Bowl. Will Georgia be headed back there... I don't know and here are some things you might not know.

Looking at the 3 big running backs one more time...

Kregg Lumpkin -- 150 rushes, 759 yards, 5 TD... 17 receptions, 116 yards, 1 TD... 1 kickoff return, 11 yards... 168 total touches, 886 yards, 6 TD

Danny Ware -- 75 rushes, 302 yards, 3 TD, 13 receptions, 184 yards, 2 kickoff returns, 30 yards... 90 total touches, 516 yards, 3 TD

Thomas Brown -- 62 rushes, 256 yards, 1 TD, 7 receptions, 71 yards, 15 kickoff returns, 379 yards, 1 TD... 84 total touches, 706 yards, 2 TD

Here is the pass distribution...

To the WR... 93 receptions (53.1%)

To the TE... 30 receptions (17.1%)

To the RB... 51 receptions (29.2%)

To the QB... 1 reception (00.6%)

With the win over Georgia Tech, Mark Richt became the 3rd Georgia football coach to win 60 career games. He became the 8th head coach overall to win number 60 in his first 6 seasons.

The other coaches at Georgia to win at least 60 were Wally Butts (140 wins) and Vince Dooley (201 wins.)

Butts won number 60 in season number 7 and Dooley got the magical number in season number 9.

The last 2 games, the Georgia pass defense has dominated. Against Georgia Tech, the Jackets were held to 42 yards passing and the week before Auburn was held to 35. Overall Georgia has held its opponent to under 100 passing yards 4 times this season. Those games were against UAB, Ole Miss, Auburn and Georgia Tech.

From 2000-2005, Georgia held its opponents under 100 yards just 5 times. Those opponents were not as big. Arkansas in 2002 was the biggest opponent. UAB in 2003, New Mexico State in 2000 and Georgia Southern in 2000 and 2004 were the others.

From pass defense to pass offense things have been getting better.

Here is a Matthew Stafford stat comparison...

First 10 games... 51.6 comp pct, 4 TD passes, 12 interceptions and a 101.4 passer rating

Last 2 games... 61.2 comp pct, 2 TD passes, 0 interceptions and a 141.6 passer rating

To be honest, I still don't have a clue how to calculate passer ratings.

Once again I promised you some basketball nuggets... How about this one...

This season, Georgia has won 3 games by 40 or more points. Georgia hasn't won a game by 40 points since November 22, 1997. To put that in perspective, that was Ron Jirsa's first season as head coach. The Dawgs defeated Charleston Southern 116-59 in that game. Derrick Dukes led all scorers with 25 points.
