On Guard

Levi Stukes and the rest of the basketball team have been doing pretty good this season. Georgia is 6-1, but on Saturday they face their toughest challenge when they challenge Gonzaga. The other Bulldogs are 9-2 and have defeated national powers, North Carolina, Texas and Washington. The two teams will square off at 5:00 pm in Duluth. Today I talked to the senior as he prepares for the game.

Dave McMahon -- Tell me about Gonzaga...

Levi Stukes -- They are a pretty good team. They beat a few top 25 teams already. It is going to be a great experience and a great challenge for us.

DM -- You played against them during your freshman season, what do you remember against them?

LS -- They have a totally different team now. They had Ronny Turiaf back then and he was great. The game was in Spokane and went it into overtime and we had our chances but we were a little short.

DM -- One of Gonzaga's most famous players was a guard named John Stockton, remember him?

LS -- He was so good with the Utah Jazz. Him and Karl Malone would run the pick and roll the whole game.

DM -- What about his shorts, do you want to bring that style back?

LS -- No!

DM -- How would you say the team has played so far?

LS -- The team has played good so far. The only set back was against Western Kentucky and in that game we struggled down the stretch. Overall the team is still learning. We haven't played our best yet.

DM -- Which Georgia player has improved the most from last season to this season?

LS -- Probably Mike Mercer. He has increased his shooting ability. He is a much better shooter now.

DM -- Does this long break between games hurt or help the team?

LS -- I think it helps. First it lets us finish our school work and exams and second it gives us fresher legs and time to rest.

DM -- How did you do in your exams?

LS -- Pretty good is some and struggled in some.

DM -- Which class gave you the most trouble?

LS -- Statistics
