Chick-fil-A Bowl: Dec. 20 News and Notes

ATHENS - Josh Kendall's news and notes from Georgia's Cick-fil-A Bowl practices.

COUTU IN: Junior place-kicker Brandon Coutu will handle field goals and extra points against the Hokies, Richt said. Coutu has been out of action since October when he tore the hamstring in his kicking leg attempting an onside kick in practice.

"He's going to kick," Richt said. "I don't know what his range is right now, but unless something crazy happens, he looks good."

MAKING THE GRADE: Fifty of Georgia's football players finished fall semester with a 3.0 grade point average, Richt said.

The NCAA allows football teams to give up to $175 worth of academic incentives per player. The Bulldogs split their players up into 10 academic teams and have a coach responsible for each group. During the season, the teams compete on a weekly basis and the winning team, which is determined using a variety of academic factors, is exempted from Monday conditioning. In the offseason, the teams compete on a two-week basis and the winners receive movie passes, Richt said.

Georgia players also receive an award, such as an article of clothing, for completing 30 or more credit hours each academic year.
