Martinez not interested in Rice job

ATHENS – Georgia defensive coordinator Willie Martinez was contacted this week about Rice University's head coaching position but turned down an interview, a school spokesman said Wednesday.

Martinez interviewed for the head coaching job at Florida International last month but pulled his name out of the running for that job as well. He will enter his third year as the Bulldogs' defensive boss in 2007.

Georgia finished this season ranked third in the SEC in total defense (258.2 yards per game allowed), fourth in scoring defense (17.6 points per game allowed), first in third-down conversion defense (27.4 percent) and second in takeaways (30).
