Newman! Dawgs shock Hogs late

FAYETTEVILLE – With nearly no time left, Steve Newman hit a long distance three-point basket to lift Georgia over Arkansas 67-64.

Newman's teammates swarmed him at mid-court, near where he hit the game-winner, celebrating their third consecutive win.

The win was improbable – the Dawgs trailed 64-58 with less than two minutes to go in the game. But that's when Newman turned it on, scoring nine of his 11 points, including the game-winner, in the last 2:21 of the game.

It was Arkansas' first at home since they fell to LSU on January 11, 2006. The loss also dropped the Hogs to 12-6 and 1-3 in SEC play. The Bulldogs, however, have suffered only one loss in conference play (at Florida) and have won three in a row to move their record to 11-5 and 3-1 in the conference.

Georgia travels to Alabama this weekend. The game is televised on CBS. It is the Dawgs' only scheduled appearance on that network this season.
