Replacing Mike?

Last week the Bulldogs men's basketball team took a hit when Mike Mercer went down with a season-ending injury. Either Billy Humphrey or Terrance Woodbury will most likely make the start in Mike's place. Well Billy made his case against South Carolina scoring 14 points, grabbing 9 rebounds along with 5 assists and 7 steals. With Kennesaw State coming up I had a chance to talk to him.

Dave McMahon -- How often to talk to Mike Mercer since he got hurt?

Billy Humphrey -- Daily. He is my roommate. He's taking it a lot better than I thought. Hopefully it won't hurt him that much during the game tomorrow.

DM -- What else did Mike provide besides scoring?

BH -- His overall athleticism on offense and defense.

DM -- Mike had to play the point guard sometime, is that something you are capable of doing?

BH -- I've played point guard before. I also play point in practice when I have to go against Mike or Sundiata Gaines.

DM -- Georgia plays Kennesaw State for the first time on Wednesday. With the rest of the SEC season ahead, did the team get lucky to play an "easier" team when it did?

BH -- You can never take anyone lightly. We can't allow that. But I guess we couldn't ask for a better circumstance.

DM -- What do you have to improve on down the stretch?

BH -- I have to improve on offense and defense and also rebounding. Everything.

DM -- What does the team need to do?

BH -- Starting playing better as a team. People say we have some of the best individual talent, but we got to play better as a team.
