About Mississippi State: Several times Georgia coach Dennis Felton said Mississippi State was the second-toughest team to play in the league behind Florida. They present some interesting match ups. Point guard Jamont Gordon is unique, a big and physical player running the offense. He leads the team in scoring and recently had a triple-double. Charles Rhodes plays the post and is second on the teamin coring at about 13 points per game. Rhodes almost single-handily beat Georgia last season scoring 27 in a career-best game. Gordon hada double-double that night, scoring 13 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
About Georgia: The Bulldogs tournament hopes took a shot with a bad performance at Ole Miss on Wednesday. They were outplayed by the Rebels and couldn't make a shot as has been the case most of the season away from Athens. The Bulldogs will likely need to win out to make the NCAA Tournament, and that won't be easy. Georgia is dealing with fatigue as the season closes out and because of a lack of depth. Four players played more than 30 minutes on Wednesday, including all three starting guards and leading scorer Takais Brown. Felton said he has cut back on team practice for that reason.
Scouting report: These two times are mirror images of each other with almost every stat equaling, and both are fighting to make the NCAA tournament. Georgia plays much better and home and Mississippi State struggles on the road. The game should be a chance for Georgia to forget about its sluggish performance and make a statement. Or it could end all hopes and secure a spot in the NIT. That adds pressure, Brown said.
