The most interesting battles this spring will be on the offensive line, where several new players are trying to get starting jobs.
What sticks out the most is that Josh Davis, a redshirt freshman, is pegged as the pre-spring starting left tackle. He is backed up by Trinton Sturdivant, who is coming off an often-injured season in high school. Sturdivant will wear number 77.
Tanner Strickland, also right out of high school ball, is backing up Fernando Velasco at left guard. Strickland will wear number 54. Chris Davis, who redshirted last season, but looked ready to play, will begin spring as the starting center, according to the University's release. He will be backed up by Seth Watts and then Kevin Perez. Ian Smith, who was suspended for the Chick-fil-A Bowl, is listed as the number four center.
Chester Adams is slotted to start at right guard, and will be backed up by JUCO transfer Scott Havercamp, who will wear number 70.
Meanwhile, GMC transfer Vince Vance, who will wear number 72, is slated to start at right tackle with Justin Anderson backing him up.
On defense, Georgia's departing defensive end tandum will be replaced by Roderick Battle on one side and Marcus Howard on the other. Jarius Wynn, who will wear number 99, is listed as the third-string defensive end behind Battle.
Corvey Irvin, who will wear number 90, is backing up Jeff Owens at one defensive tackle spot. Kade Weston is listed as the starter at the other spot.
At linebacker, Brandon Miller has moved to Mike linebacker and is listed as the started there. His weight is a reported 257 pounds. Darius Dewberry is listed as the starter at Sam, and Dannell Ellerbe will start at Will.
In the secondary, Paul Oliver and Bryan Evans are the listed starters at the corners. Kelin Johnson and C.J. Byrd are the listed starters at safety while Quintin Banks and Donavon Baldwin back them up. Reshad Jones is the third string free safety.
The depth chart will move during and after spring ball, but the chart released today is a good gauge of where the position fights will be this spring.
