Mattes visits Georgia

ATHENS – Georgia is always on the lookout for good offensive linemen.

They may have found one in R.J. Mattes, who visited Georgia for the first time over the weekend for the Bulldogs' junior day.

"It was sweet," Mattes said. "That stadium is nice. They had a scrimmage and we watched that. I talked with Stacy Searles and he told me that they wanted to sign more offensive linemen and they want more depth. The coaches were really awesome – I thought."

Mattes has offers from a slew of ACC schools and one SEC team. Virginia, Clemson, Wake, South Carolina, East Carolina, NC State, Duke and North Carolina have all offered and he says that the Tar Heels, Cavaliers and Tigers lead right now.

But if Georgia were to offer, he says, that would change.

"If Georgia offered they would go right to the top of my list," Mattes admitted. "Hopefully, they will give me an offer because I liked them a lot. They want to look at me some more."

Mattes said he will return to Georgia for the Bulldogs' one-day camp later in the summer. Although he didn't say he would rather play at an SEC school, Mattes did say that SEC football was "the best around" and he called his trip to Georgia and South Carolina "awesome".

"We got a presentation about a lot of different stuff this past weekend and it seems to me that Georgia is pretty serious about football," he said.

It seems the Bulldogs are very serious about Mattes. While eating lunch, Mattes visited with Georgia's offensive line coach .

"Coach Searles came up to me let me know they were interested," he said. "They know that I have a bunch of offers and he told me that they are going to keep up with me."
