2007 Spring Practice: Day 9 Practice Report

ATHENS Georgia held a two-hour practice on Monday at the Woodruff practice fields. It was the team¹s first time out since a full scrimmage on Saturday.

³It was a good day considering we were in shells following a scrimmage,² said head coach Mark Richt. ³A lot of times these are lackluster practices, but the guys did a nice job.²

Richt said after looking at film that the team had too many missed assignments during the scrimmage.

³As a group I felt the offense didn¹t get our hats exactly where they belong. It¹s crucial in our blocking schemes to get hats where they belong. But the good was that we were physical. We can correct the technical (mistakes). If you¹re not playing hard and physical at this time of year when you¹ll have problems,² Richt said.

Standouts of the scrimmage included senior OG Fernando Velasco and junior DT Jeff Owens. Richt also praised seniors Marcus Howard, Brandon Miller and Kelin Johnson for their work.

Richt also praised many of the team¹s newest additions including Trinton Sturdivant, who he said has been an early surprise.

³He¹s moved to left tackle and really impressed me,² said Richt. ³That¹s the (position) that has to be our best pass blocker. He has a long way to go but he¹s made great strides for us.²

Georgia returns to the practice fields on Wednesday. Spring drills conclude on Sat., April 7 at 2 p.m. with the annual G-Day game in Sanford Stadium.
