Mattes waiting to hear from Dawgs

R.J. Mattes has offers from some top schools, but he's also waiting on one in particular.

Quentin Grant: What's your offer list looking like at this point?

R.J. Mattes: I've got Virginia, Duke, Wake Forest, NC State, UNC, Clemson, South Carolina, and East Carolina.

QG: What the most recent offer you have received?

RJ: South Carolina was my most recent offer.

QG: What are schools you are hearing from that haven't offered?

RJ: I'm hearing from Georgia. I went down there for one of their spring practices, and I'm going down there this week for the Nike Camp Combine. They are going to take a look at me then and consider offering then.

QG: Are you really hoping from an offer from Georgia?

RJ: Of course.

QG: Didn't you really enjoy your visit to Georgia?

RJ: Yes I really liked them. The facilities are top notch, the coaches were real cool, and the coaches seemed real cool.

QG: Who's recruiting you for Georgia?

RJ: Coach Bobo

QG: Where else have you visited during the Spring?

RJ: I've been all over. Spring Break was last week and I went to NC State and I went down to Clemson. I've been up to Virginia like ten times. I've also been to South Carolina, and I've been to Wake Forest.

QG: You've visited a lot of schools. What were some of the more impressive visits you have been on?

RJ: Clemson impressed me a lot. I got a personal tour of the campus from Coach Napier. I was impressed with their academic advisors, and how important academics is there. They plan the day out down there for you and that really impressed me.

At NC State I was really impressed by Coach Tom O'Brien when he showed me a sheet of lineman he has put in the NFL. I was amazed at how easy it has been for him to put lineman in the NFL. The place where the players live at NC State is incredible.

At UVA I was impressed with everything plus the fact I've been a UVA fan since I was a kid so it was like going back to see my favorite college. Those schools are my top three right now and those are the ones I've got to choose from.

QG: Now if Georgia offered would they move into one of your top choices?

RJ: Yes, they would go way up there. I mean it's Georgia and the SEC.

QG: Would they be your top choice if they offered?

RJ: I wouldn't say the top of the list but they would be right in there with the other three schools.

QG: What are your thoughts on when you will be making a commitment?

RJ: I don't want to a make a decision too early and commit right now. I will probably wait until about the second game of football season and take one or two official visits to see the campus and chill with the players and then make my decision from there.

QG: What are your plans for camping this summer?

RJ: Right now I'm definitely going to NC State, North Carolina, Virginia, Clemson, and I'll probably end up going to two more but I haven't decided yet.
