School Preferences: Georgia leads Florida, Florida State, Miami, Auburn, and Clemson
Profile 2003 - Ken Shackleford (OL/DL)
Ken Shackleford (Villa Rica HS - Villa Rica, GA) is one of the most impressive looking offensive tackle prospects in the state this year. He is 6-5 and 305 pounds and has excellent quickness. He moves so well, that he actually starts at defensive end for his Villa Rica Team.
"He's running second team as offensive tackle for us," said Head Coach Lynn Rowe, "but we're kind of a young program right now. We need our best athletes on defense, and then we can build up the offense. He'd be an offensive tackle for us as well."
Shackleford said that he prefers defensive line, but he has the prototypical build to play offensive tackle. At 6-5 and 305 pounds he has good quickness with a 5.12 forty time. He gets off the line of scrimmage well at the snap of the ball. He has very long arms that will aid him tremendously in pass protection, and he has great footwork moving laterally. "He is one of the most "ready" offensive tackles in the state of Georgia and in the south this year. He could make an early contribution to a team that is in need of help on the offensive line.
"I like playing defense a little better though," said Shackleford, "but I'll play on either side of the ball. I didn't get to any camps this summer, but I did go up to the Georgia and Clemson game. I have a scholarship offer from Georgia right now. They're probably my favorite team. I like Georgia, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Auburn, and Clemson the most right now. I'm not in any hurry to make a decision. I want to take my visits before I decide on anything."
Shackleford did not get to any camps this summer, and that may be one reason why he doesn't have more offers than he already does. He is one of the top offensive tackle prospects in the south this year.
