Brewer signs with Dawgs

ATHENS - University of Georgia basketball coach Dennis Felton today announced that guard Troy Brewer of Rockville, Md., has signed a national letter-of-intent to play basketball next season for the Bulldogs.

Brewer, at 6-5, 180 pounds, is currently finishing his senior year at Montrose Christian School in Rockville. The Mustangs, annually one of the nation¹s top high school programs, concluded the 2007 season with a 21-3 record and a No. 21 national ranking by USA Today. In his first season as a starter in O07, Brewer averaged 15.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. He played in 2006 behind All-American Kevin Durant, who became the national Player of the Year as a freshman at Texas this past year.

³We are really excited to have Troy join the Bulldog family, and we believe that his skills and talent will be assets to our program,² Felton said. ³He is a terrific guard with good size and length. Shooting the basketball is considered his specialty, but just as important, Troy is simply accustomed to winning. He is a product of one of the premier high school programs in the country at Montrose Christian. Coach Stu Vetter has turned out Top 25 teams, as well as a long list of high-level players, at each of his schools over the past 20 years. We feel like Troy is another member of that list²

Brewer is the fifth prospect to sign with the Bulldogs and the only one during the spring signing period, which ends Wednesday. He joins Chris Barnes, a 6-8 forward from College Park, Ga.; Jeremy Jacob, a 6-7 swing player from Baton Rouge, La.; Jeremy Price, a 6-9 forward from Decatur, Ga.; and Zac Swansey, a 6-1 guard from Dunwoody, Ga.

³I¹m really looking forward to seeing Troy and the rest of hisclassmates arrive in Athens this summer and begin making their collective impact on our program,² Felton said.
