Goff will not be in Athens Saturday

Though Goff has not been back at Sanford Stadium for a game, he has attended other Georgia functions on campus.

ATHENS, Ga. - Ray Goff hasn't attended a Georgia home game since he was fired as head coach following the 1995 season, and that streak is not ending this week.

Earlier this week, Georgia listed Goff among former players and coaches planning to attend a reunion at Saturday's game.  Goff said Thursday he will not be at the Georgia-Northwestern State game after all.

"I'm supposed to be out of town with my youngest daughter (Allison),'' Goff said. "I'm actually going to be (with other former players and coaches) for a letterman's barbecue, but then I have to spend the day with my daughter.''

Added Goff: "I'm not mad with anybody or anything. My name got put on the list inadvertently.''

Though Goff has not been back at Sanford Stadium for a game, he has attended other Georgia functions on campus.

Goff said he attended the Georgia-South Carolina game last week.

"I sat in the end zone with a bunch of South Carolina fans,'' Goff said, adding "It was the first time I had seen a (Georgia) game in seven years.''

Goff also plans to attend the Georgia-Florida game as a fan "to see what all the fuss is about.''

Said Goff: "I'm looking forward to the game, and I'm looking forward to Georgia winning, too.''

Goff still lives in Athens and works with his younger brother, Bucky, and his agent, Lonnie Cooper, in investments. The group's fifth Zaxby's restaurant is opening in Norman Beach, Fla., and Goff said there are plans for more new restaurants next year.
