In the midst of a summer full of baseball, Commings said he has been focused on baseball this entire summer. He's gone as far as moving to Columbus to be closer to his traveling team, but, he said, at least he's got his car.
"I've spent the summer in Columbus playing for Homeplate Baseball," Commings said. "I want to play baseball in college, too, so that will have a lot to do with my decision."
Commings is considered one of the top baseball players in Georgia, but is being recruited to play on the gridiron by many big-name schools. Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida and Auburn are all after the Augusta native, and he says coaches from those staffs keep in touch with him regularly.
"I hear from all of them, but Coach Richt from Georgia and Coach Myer from Florida both text me, too," he said. "I hear from Coach Fabris at Georgia, too – he's the one recruiting me for them."
Sanders pointed out the two head coaches who are texting him, but said that Georgia Tech and Auburn keep pace in the recruiting game, too.
"I am still open," he said of his recruitment. "I would like to make a decision before my high school season starts. I think one of the important things I am looking for is if the schools will let me play baseball, too. Also, I want a school that has computer science or business as a major."
Commings said he has visited Georgia, Georgia Tech, Auburn and South Carolina. He plays both offense and defense for Westside, but would likely play in the secondary in college.
