2007 Media Days: Legge's Look at Miss. State

BIRMINGHAM – Here's a look at the day Mississippi State Head Coach Sylvester Croom and the Bulldogs had at the SEC's annual Media Day event. Mississippi State finished fifth in the SEC West last season and did not go to a bowl game.

Last season: 3-9
Last game vs. Georgia: 27-24 loss
Series Record: Georgia leads 16-5-0
Most memorable Georgia win: 1997 – Georgia pounds State 47-0 and in the process announces that the red and black is back as a force in the SEC.
Most painful Georgia loss: 1974 – Georgia loses 38-14 to State in Jackson – the biggest loss to State in school history.
Starters returning: 17

Best player: Titus Brown
Biggest Weakness: Depth and talent
2007's big question: Is a three-win season the ceiling for Mississippi State's program?

Inside the numbers vs. Georgia (as seen in the 2007 Dawg Post Season Preview):
That's how many conference wins State had last season. It came against Alabama and was likely the final straw in the firing of Mike Shula. Croom may not win a ton, but when he does it counts for something. State's 2004 upset of Florida pushed Ron Zook out the door, too.

SEC Media Day's quote to note:

"Hey… we've got to play LSU at some point and playing the first game of the season is about as good a time as any." – Mississippi State Head Coach Sylvester Croom on State opening up with LSU

"Yeah, I feel pressure. The same sort of pressure I felt in 9th grade. I feel the pressure to win. If you are asking me if I am worried about being fired – no." Croom's opinion on pressure going into the 2007 season
