Fall Camp for the Class of 2007: Strickland

ATHENS – Half a year ago, the Class of 2007 was the big news. Now most of that group is fighting to avoid a redshirt. Dean Legge takes a quick look at each member of the Class of 2007 and his situation this fall camp. Today: Tanner Strickland.

How he can get onto the field this fall:

Strickland helped his chances tremendously by enrolling early and going through mat drills and spring camp. He was arrested earlier this year because of a fake ID, but he has dealt with the punishment that came from that. Strickland is going to have to hold off another member of the Class of 2008 to keep his spot on the second team. Harden is not his only competition at that guard spot, as Georgia can't redshirt centers Kevin Perez and Ian Smith anymore, so they may as well play them. Strickland is going to have to be heads and shoulders above all of those players just to play this fall. He doesn't have what it takes right now to pass starter Chris Davis. With that said, Strickland has as good a chance as anyone else to make an impact on the two-deep of this line.

Will he redshirt?

It's going to be close, but he will probably redshirt. Strickland will need one heck of a fall camp to avoid the redshirt tag. I don't think he's going to have that outstanding of a camp, but he's in position, certainly, to do just that. A lot will depend on how well he did this summer with conditioning. Unlike other players in the Class of 2007, Strickland can't save himself from a redshirt by playing on special teams.
