Jones visits Dawgs' first practice

ATHENS – Ben Jones was decked out in all red and black when he arrived in Athens today.

That's when he saw an old friend of his – A.J. Harmon.

"I was surprised to see him there," Jones admitted. "I was telling him that he needs to go ahead on and come on over to our side."

That, however, may be more difficult to do. Harmon is still committed to Clemson, he said today, but that didn't stop Jones from trying to lure his old camp competitor to the Bulldog side.

As for Jones himself, he watched the offensive – keeping a close eye on the centers.

"I was just watching Fernando Velasco – everything he did," Jones said.

The Alabama prep, who will enroll at Georgia in January 2008, said the Georgia coaches have told him to get ready to play center when he arrives. There is a good chance, with Velasco departing and Ian Smith no longer on the team, that Jones will get some playing time early.

"I talked with Coach Sealers today again," Jones said. "It's crazy that he wears a sweatshirt during the summer. That is nuts."

Searles and Jones have formed a good friendship over the last few months of recruiting, Jones said, and he's eager to play for the Bulldogs in a matter of months.

"It's exciting to watch it, and know that I will be out there in a few months," Jones said.
