Who will start for the Dawgs?

ATHENS – With less than two weeks remaining until the first game of the season, the bulk of Georgia's starting positions seem set.

Only three groups – tailback, wide receiver and cornerback – appear truly in flux after Friday night, when the Bulldogs held their second scrimmage of the fall.

The starting spot at tailback won't mean much, Coach Mark Richt said, because seniors Thomas Brown and Kregg Lumpkin and redshirt freshman Knowshon Moreno all will get a chance.

"There's going to be some prestige to who is named the starter, but we expect all three of those guys to play," Richt said. "Whether people like it or not, they are all very talented and they're all going to play."

At wide receiver, senior Sean Bailey looks embedded at one spot, but he does not feel that way.

"We have people challenging each other every day," he said. "There is no way you can sit there and say you have a job locked up. The minute you feel confident about your spot, that's when it's going to get taken."

Mike Moore, Mikey Henderson and Mohammed Massaquoi also are in the mix to start.

Georgia's four available cornerbacks with playing experience – Thomas Flowers, Bryan Evans, Asher Allen and Prince Miller – are swapping starting jobs almost every day in practice, Evans said. (Ramarcus Brown has been suspended for the first two games.)

"There really is no set depth chart right now," he said.

Most of the coaches' decision-making this week will be about how many snaps the team's backups deserve, Richt said.

"That's as important as anything," he said.

Georgia's first game is Sept. 1 against Oklahoma State in Sanford Stadium. It will kick off at 6:45 p.m. and be shown on ESPN2.
