Georgia announces 2007-08 slate

ATHENS - Fifteen of Georgia's 29 regular-season games will come against teams that competed in the 2007 postseason, including eight against fellow SEC East members, according to the Bulldogs' basketball schedule that was announced Tuesday by head coach Dennis Felton.

The Georgia basketball schedule has ranked among the nation¹s most difficult for much of this decade, and the 2008 slate should be no different. In addition to the lineup of SEC opponents, two other so-called ³power² conferences the Atlantic Coast and Big Ten are also represented.

³Last year we were proud to have the challenge of playing one of the 15 toughest schedules in the country,² Georgia coach Dennis Felton said. ³I believe this schedule will put us in the same ballpark this year. We play in some tough places on the road, and we¹ll have some exciting home games, not to mention the competition we¹ll see in the SEC schedule.²

Highlights of the non-conference slate at Stegeman Coliseum include a Dec. 8 date against Wake Forest, a return matchup from the Bulldogs¹ 87-86 win in Winston-Salem last season. Intrastate rival Georgia Tech will make its biennial trip to Athens for a Jan. 9 contest.

The Bulldogs will also face tough challenges in their non-conference road schedule. As return engagements from last season, they¹ll play at Big Ten foe Wisconsin on November 24 and at Gonzaga on Jan. 5. The latter matchup, since last year¹s game was played at a neutral site in Duluth, Ga., will take place at the Spokane Civic Center instead of the Zags¹ home gymnasium.

In addition, Georgia will make its third appearance in the Rainbow Classic, hosted in its home arena by the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. The 1997 Bulldogs won the championship while the 2002 squad lost to the host Rainbows in the title game.

³I¹m really looking forward to our trip to Hawaii and I know our team is, too,² Felton said. ³I¹m hoping that a good, spirited group of our fans will join us for that tournament."
