ATHENS – The Georgia football team began preparations for its third game of the season by working out for two hours on Monday at the Woodruff Practice Fields.
The Bulldogs are 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the SEC following their 16-12 loss to South Carolina
last week. Western Carolina, the Bulldogs' opponent this week, is 0-2 after losses to Alabama
and Eastern Kentucky.
"We've got to be focused on getting better each week," Georgia coach Mark Richt said. "We've got to keep working hard on the little things. There's still plenty of football left to be played. Our goal is to get better and play the best game we can on Saturday."
Richt announced the captains for Saturday's game will be Fernando Velasco on offense, Dannell Ellerbe and Kade Weston on defense, and Benjamin Boyd on special teams.
Before practice begins on Mondays, the players run five different times around the football field, a drill call "fifths." One group is excused from the run based on stellar academic performances. On Monday, that group was the interior defensive line.
