Johnson expects to play Saturday

ATHENS – Safety Kelin Johnson officially is listed as questionable for Saturday's game, but he's expecting to play, he said Monday.

Johnson suffered bruised ribs and a slight cartilage tear in the first half of last week's loss to South Carolina.

"It all depends on how my body heals up," Johnson said after sitting out Monday's practice. "I feel like I'll be ready."

Junior CJ Byrd and redshirt freshman Reshad Jones played every snap of the second half against the Gamecocks. Jones was the Bulldogs' second-leading tackler with six stops. Byrd had four tackles.

"They did a wonderful job," Johnson said.

If Johnson can't play, it probably will mean more action for Houston County graduate Quintin Banks, a redshirt freshman who has played sparingly thus far. Banks would be the third safety behind Byrd and Jones, Byrd said.
