Alabama Week: Monday News and Notes

ATHENS - Josh Kendall's news and notes from Georiga's fall practices.

GAME TIME: The Sept. 29 game against Ole Miss in Sanford Stadium will kick off at 1 p.m. It is not being televised.

THE SABAN EFFECT?: Richt has taken the unusual step this week of making all Georgia's practices off limits to the media and photographers. Normally, members of the media are allowed to watch the first 30 minutes of practice before being asked to leave. It's the first time Richt has closed practice an entire week while at Georgia.

He was unavailable for comment Monday about the reason for his secrecy, but it mirrors Saban's legendary bunker mentality.

Saban does not allow his assistant coaches to speak to reporters during the season, but Alabama's practices are open to media members for the first 20 minutes Monday through Wednesday.

SEC HONOR: Junior Jeff Owens was named the SEC's defensive lineman of the week after recording five tackles, including two for loss, against Western Carolina. Alabama running back Terry Grant was named the league's freshman of the week. He rushed for 96 yards on 20 carries and is second in the SEC with 134.3 rushing yards per game.
