Dewberry not where he wants to be

ATHENS – Sophomore linebacker Darius Dewberry doesn't know if he'll hold onto his starting job this week, but he admits he didn't fare very well the last time out.

"I don't think I played well at all," he said. "I had a couple missed assignments and everything, but I can't do anything about it but get better right now."

Dewberry, a former star at Peach County High School, did not admit to blowing the coverage on the Tennessee trick play that went for a 56-yard touchdown, but he was in the game at the time and playing weak side linebacker, the position that had the responsibility for covering tailback LaMarcus Coker, who caught the pass.

Dewberry, who already has been benched once this season, had four tackles against the Volunteers and has 15 for the season.

"I think I'm playing pretty average," he said. "I know I have a lot to improve on to be the player I want to be and the player the coaches expect me to be. It takes a long time to master anything you do, it takes a lot of practice."
