Catching up with Commitment Fernando Velasco

Georgia's 3rd public commitment of the year was Jefferson County big man Fernando Velasco. His team is off to a tough start this year, but Velasco remains upbeat and is ready to make his mark at Georgia

Fernando Velasco's Jefferson County team is off to a rough start this year at 0-6, but the always upbeat Velasco is not letting it get him down. "We've lost some close games this year," said Velasco. "Everyone is trying hard; so we're keeping our heads up."

With the struggles on the field, it makes Velasco look forward even more to starting school at Georgia next year. He has both a qualifying GPA and test score already in hand; it's only a matter of time now. "I'm having a pretty good season personally, but yeah, I'm ready to get to college and start playing too. I went up for the Georgia/Tennessee game this weekend, and I had a lot of fun. This was my 3rd game up there. My choice pretty much came down to Georgia and Auburn, and I'm definitely going to Georgia."

Velasco is playing at about 320 pounds right now, and projects as a drive blocking interior lineman on the next level. He was Georgia's 3rd public verbal, and now there are a total of 9 for the Dawgs. For a complete list of Georgia's public commitments, please click here.
