Dawgs very familiar with Heisman Hopefuls

ATHENS – The Heisman Trophy winner will be announced Saturday in New York, and a former and future Georgia opponent will be on hand as finalists.

Florida quarterback Tim Tebow is the frontrunner, and Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan, who will face the Bulldogs in Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1, also is a candidate.

"I've got a lot of respect for the other guys, but I would vote Tebow," Georgia head coach Mark Richt said. "I'm sure that will be on Hawaii's bulletin board. I hope it's not. I have a lot of respect for Colt and what he's done, but I think Tebow is unlike any other player I've ever seen."

Hawaii coach June Jones drew attention this week when he dismissed Tebow as a "system quarterback," meaning his jaw-dropping statistics are more attributable to the offense he plays in rather than his talent. Richt doesn't buy that argument, he said.

"I'm not sure what a system quarterback is," Richt said. "While I was at Florida State, I coached Charlie Ward and he played within our system, and I coached Chris Weinke within the same system, and they were very, very different in how they went about their business."
