"I heard that table was getting mobbed," Richt said. "That was probably pretty neat for Knowshon, might have been neat for Herschel, too."
Walker, considered one of the greatest players in college football history, is the school's all-time leading rusher and the yardstick by which every subsequent back has been judged. Moreno entered that conversation this season by rushing for 1,273 yards, the most by a Georgia freshman since Walker's 1,616 in 1980.
"It was definitely awesome to meet him," Moreno said. "Everybody is always talking about him, what a great guy he is, and he really is, just a real down-to-earth kind of guy. It was really an honor just to be a part of that. We just talked, just regular, no football stuff."
Moreno and Walker both spent much of their evening signing autographs, and Moreno got a taste of the fame Walker is accustomed to when one of his game jerseys was auctioned off for more than $10,000.
"That was crazy," Moreno said. "That was nuts."
