Sugar Bowl Week 3: Tuesday Practice Report

ATHENS - The Georgia football team practiced for two hours in clear but cold conditions in full pads on Tuesday afternoon.

The No. 4 Bulldogs are scheduled to meet 10th-ranked Hawai¹i in the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, La., on Jan. 1, 2008. According to head coach Mark Richt, his team is looking forward to Christmas as well as its matchup with the Warriors.

³Every year, the guys say, OHow about we have a two-a-day on Thursday?¹ so they can leave that night and every year I tell them, ONo¹,² said Georgia head coach Mark Richt, who will be having his team¹s final practice before Christmas on Friday morning. ³They are ready to get home and then to get to New Orleans. But I tell them that while we¹re here, we might as well be getting work done.²

In addition to the effort of several other players who have redshirted, Richt said quarterback Logan Gray, who is playing the role of Hawai¹i quarterback Colt Brennan in practice, is helping his team learn about the Warrior offense.

³Logan has done a great job all year,² said Richt. ³He is built just like (Colt), but it¹s hard to simulate what they¹re doing but hopefully our scout team can give a little semblance of what their offense does.²

Richt also added that junior linebacker Marcus Washington ³tweaked his ankle² in practice earlier this week, but he expects him to play against Hawai¹i.

Kickoff for the game between Georgia (10-2) and the Warriors (12-0) is slated for 8:30 p.m. ET and will be televised by FOX.
