Sugar Bowl Week 3: Wednesday Practice Report

ATHENS – The Georgia football team practiced for a little over two hours in helmets and shoulder pads at the Woodruff Practice Fields on Wednesday.

The No. 4 Bulldogs are scheduled to face 10th-ranked Hawaii in the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, La., on Jan. 1, 2008. Head coach Mark Richt indicated that he felt the Bulldogs had a good practice on Wednesday.

"I really liked practice today compared to yesterday," Richt said. "Not that yesterday was really all that bad, but I saw the energy that I saw in the first practice."

When meeting with the media, Richt was asked his take on Brian VanGorder being hired as the defensive coordinator at South Carolina. VanGorder worked as an assistant coach at Georgia from 2001 to 2004.

"He's a good coach, a good friend," Richt said. "Anytime somebody loses their job you like to see them take a job. I didn't realize that until just now. It doesn't surprise me though. Obviously, coach (Steve) Spurrier wanted him."

Kickoff for the game between Georgia (10-2) and the Warriors (12-0) is slated for 8:30 p.m. ET and will be televised by FOX and broadcast on XM radio channel 144.
