Sugar Bowl Week 3: Thursday Practice Report

ATHENS The Georgia football team held its next-to-last practice in Athens on Thursday, logging about two hours in full pads.

The Bulldogs will practice on campus for the final time on Friday morning, and then will disperse for the Christmas break. Georgia¹s players and coaches will reconvene in New Orleans on Dec. 26 to continue preparations for the Jan. 1 matchup with Hawaii in the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

³In less than 24 hours, the players will be on the road and I am sure some of them were thinking about that today,² Georgia coach Mark Richt said. ³It was actually a good day. The players did a nice job. The enthusiasm was great. We had guys like Kelin Johnson on one side and Thomas Brown on the other chirping at each other, reminding one side when they did better, rubbing it in for a big play. It was good, playful stuff.²

Richt was asked about tailback Kregg Lumpkin, who recently graduated with his second degree since enrolling at Georgia. Lumpkin¹s senior year has been largely curtailed by an injury, though he is expected to play in the Sugar Bowl.

³Kregg has had a great career,² Richt said. ³He¹s done a lot of great things and he has helped us win a lot of ballgames. He is a tremendous example of what a student-athlete should look like. He is a great leader, a wonderful guy.²

Kickoff for the game between the Bulldogs (10-2) and the Warriors (12-0) is slated for 8:30 p.m. ET. The Sugar Bowl will be televised by FOX and broadcast on XM radio channel 144.
