Johnson leaving, but Thomas still a Dawg

Carlton Thomas won't be affected by an assistant coaching change at Georgia, he said this week.

That's good new for Georgia fans hoping the Bulldogs will sign the Florida running back. However, the school pulling at Thomas the most, he said was an interesting one.

"I heard from West Virginia a lot," Thomas said. "Their new coaching staff has contacted me a lot."

David Johnson, who has been responsible for recruiting Thomas for the Dawgs, has been flirting with West Virginia since this past weekend. Johnson took the offensive line job today. Thomas said while Johnson may be on the way to West Virginia, that does not mean he will follow him.

"I am still firm to Georgia," Thomas said. "Coach Johnson leaving Georgia wouldn't mean anything for me – he's not my position coach. I talked with Coach Ball last week, and I am expecting a visit from the Georgia coaches this week."

Thomas committed to the Bulldogs after taking an official visit to Athens this fall.
