Harmon will get his shot at DL

ATHENS – Jefferson County's A.J. Harmon will get his shot to play on the defensive line if he can meet several guidelines the coaches have established for that to happen.

The most important among those is losing weight before he arrives in Athens. Harmon, 6-foot-5, 328-pound, is rated a four-star defensive line prospect by Scout.com.

"For him to have a chance to play and compete (on the defensive line) he needs to come in at a certain weight and things like that, but our intention is for him to be a defensive lineman," recruiting coordinator and defensive line coach Rodney Garner said. "If he does what he's supposed to do, that's where he's going to be."

If not, Harmon still could get a chance to play defensive tackle but probably would be moved to offensive line.

"He's a smart kid and he understands that," Garner said.
