Avery's baseball still in the air

ATHENS - Xavier Avery of Cedar Grove High School may not end up at Georgia because of his baseball skill, and if he does come, there's no telling where he might play.

Avery was mainly a running back in high school but is listed as an "athlete" in Georgia's recruiting class.

"X is a unique guy," Garner said. "I think he can play a bunch of different positions. Coach (Tony) Ball likes him as a running back, Coach (Willie) Martinez likes him as a corner. Coach Richt likes him as a guy coming out of the slot receiver position. I think X himself probably likes himself more as a running back. His father likes him as a defensive back."

Avery is drawing plenty of interest from Major League Baseball scouts. Three teams a week come through his house for interviews, Garner said.
