Spring Practice Day 12: News and Notes

ATHENS - Josh Kendall's news and notes from Georgia's spring practices.

OWENS OUT: Senior defensive tackle Jeff Owens, a projected starter, will be out the rest of spring practice after suffering a dislocated shoulder in Friday's scrimmage. Owens will have his right arm in a sling for the next month and then face a month of rehabilitation before he can begin working out full speed again.

He is expected to be ready for full contact when fall practice begins in August.

MASSAQUOI ON MEND: Senior wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi may sit out the G-Day game due to a sprained neck he suffered before Friday's scrimmage.

The senior from Charlotte, N.C., watched Monday's practice in street clothes and said afterward that he's not going to rush back.

"There's really no timetable to be honest," he said. "We're just being safe, taking it day by day, and we'll see what happens."

Massaquoi had 32 catches for 491 yards last year and is hoping for a breakout season this year, not just for himself but for his team, he said.

"I feel real confident," he said. "There are big, big, big, big hopes for this season. We've all been working hard, the defense is flying around, we're flying around and we want to live up to the hype and the expectations."
