SEC looks over TV deals... but will wait

DESTIN, FL - The presidents and athletic directors of every SEC school spent Thursday afternoon here listening to sales pitches from various television partners or potential television partners.

The conference's current TV deals run out after the 2008-2009 academic year, so a new plan will have to be place before the 2009 football season.

SEC commissioner Mike Slive declined to discuss specifics Thursday but said the conference still is considering starting its own channel to supplement regular network coverage and has listened to offers from networks that aren't currently partners of the league.

The biggest decision facing the league is whether to start its own channel, but that choice will not be made here, Slive said. A new deal should be in place by the fall, he said.

"The purpose of our meetings here is to bring everyone up to date on those conversations," Slive said. "We're going to leave Destin with both of the primary options open."
