Moreno has nagging shoulder; but not serious

ATHENS – Georgia head coach Mark Richt began his post-practice media session with what he dubbed "a major announcement."

There were no injuries at practice Thursday, so there was no need to discuss them, he said with a smile.

And then the question came – why was running back Knowshon Moreno wearing a green jersey at practice?

As it turns out, the redshirt sophomore has a mild left shoulder injury, and coaches took the precautionary measure of keeping their star running back away from any significant hits.

"It's been kind of a nagging shoulder, and I don't know if it makes a whole hill of beans out there," Richt said.

Moreno never reported the injury to trainers, Richt said, but running backs coach Tony Ball noticed Moreno favoring the shoulder during drills.

"Knowshon's just not the type of guy who's going to go to the trainer and say, ‘my shoulder hurts a little bit,' so it's more of a coaches discretion on that one," Richt said.

Moreno will likely wear the green jersey again today when Georgia holds its first day of practice with tackling, but Richt said if Georgia's first game were today, his Heisman hopeful running back would be on the field.

"He's fine," Richt said. "He'd play today absolutely."
